This last week has been exciting for me - I’ve been doing daily brain dumps/brainstorming sessions since starting Mel Robbins’ journals based on her best selling books, “The 5 Second Rule” and “High 5 Habit”. These journals provide daily prompts that are backed by science. They have you step through a positive morning/daily routine that both nourishes your soul and encourages you to set and reach your goals, all while building your self esteem.
These brainstorming and brain dump sessions proved to be very effective and my new ideas have made me super excited. I have big goals for my business and myself and I’m busy planning and breaking down my ideas into tasks.
Something that Mel stresses to her readership, is to have compassion for yourself. Mel Robbins, through her popular books "The 5 Second Rule" and "High 5 Habit," consistently emphasizes the critical role of self-compassion in personal growth and success. While "The 5 Second Rule" primarily focuses on taking immediate action to overcome procrastination and fear, the underlying message inherently supports self-compassion by encouraging individuals to recognize their potential and push past self-doubt with a gentle but firm hand. It's about giving yourself the grace to try, and the freedom to course-correct without harsh self-judgment.
"The High 5 Habit" takes this concept even further, making self-compassion a cornerstone of daily practice. Robbins argues that just as we offer encouragement and support to others, we must extend that same kindness to ourselves. The act of "high-fiving yourself" in the mirror is a physical manifestation of this self-love and acceptance. It's a powerful tool to interrupt negative self-talk, boost confidence, and remind yourself of your worth and capability. Both books collectively teach that showing yourself compassion isn't about letting yourself off the hook; it's about building a foundation of self-belief and resilience that empowers you to face challenges, celebrate victories, and navigate setbacks with a healthy, supportive inner dialogue.
So this week I thought it fitting to find quotes on compassion, as a reminder to ourselves to extend to ourselves the kindness and compassion we’d show a friend.
